Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 1st June 1960 in which the following was discussed: vote of sympathy for the death of Joseph Keating. Detailed amendments and updates for the future operation of the board including that the names of the voters in any votes be recorded, not just the voting numbers. More details should be sent to board members about the provenance of pictures before votes on purchase. Two conditions of purchase added - a picture must have 'special national interest' and be of 'outstanding aesthetic and historical importance'. Disagreement about the purchase of a Portrait of Andrew Tynan by J B Yeats - no action to be taken. Further discussion on Shaw Fund. Discussion about the creation of a complete catalogue for all pictures in the Gallery. Qualifications and duties of Registrar and new Assistant discussed. The resignation of Miss Philda O'Connor was acknowledged and the board sent good wishes to her on her marriage.
