Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 6th April 1960 in which the following was discussed: it was decided to accept the picture "The Scales (The month of October)" by James Barry. It was decided to accept a portrait of Rosa Butt by J B Yeats [NGI 1724] from Sir William Ball. It was decided not to purchase "Femme dans la Priere" by Toulouse-Lautrec by 5 votes to 4. Several pictures offered for purchase declined. It was agreed to loan "Judith with the Head of Holofernes" by Andrea Mantegna [NGI 442] to an Exhibition in Mantua; "View of a Town in Holland" by Jan van Goyen [NGI 236] for an exhibition at Leiden and at Arnhem. Long discussion of pensions. Further discussion of Shaw Fund. It was reported that a small Self-Portrait of R L West [NGI 418] was missing from its place in the Portrait Gallery - directions should be issued to the staff to 'maintain very strict vigilance'.
