Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 4th February 1966 in which the following was discussed: Captain Barton and Professor Doyle were welcomed to their first meeting. The board approved of borrowing a large number of paintings from Major Shirley to exhibit in the Gallery. The progress of the new Gallery wing was discussed. Captain Barton and Professor Hackett were the representatives for the Royal Dublin Society on the board for this year. The Director's annual report for 1965 was read and accepted. A gift of a pastel portrait of "Anew McMaster, Actor as Shakespeare's Othello" by Gaétan De Gennaro [NGI 3793] was accepted. A portrait of Michael Cormack by Thomas Hickey was also accepted [NGI 1789]. The board accepted a resurrection scene in stained glass by Evie Hone as a bequest from Mrs Nancy Connell. The purchase of a pastel portrait of Countess Markievicz by Anne Nordgren was approved [NGI 3795], along with a group of 11 drawings by William Orpen, Flora Lion and Walter Osborne. The Crawford School of Art, Cork, requested the loan of 25 oil paintings, which the board granted. The board approved of a proposal to hold a tercentary exhibition in commemoration of Swift's death. The date was decided for the opening of the 1916 exhibition. The credits to the Shaw Fund and Lane Fund were mentioned.
