Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 8th April 1959 in which the following was discussed: this was an extraordinary meeting to discuss the possible purchase of five pictures. It was decided to purchase "Venice, Queen of the Adriatic, Crowning the Lion of Saint Mark" by Tintoretto [NGI 1384] for £23,000 from Agnew and Sons with funds from the Shaw bequest. It was decided to purchase Portrait of a Lady by Domenico Ghirlandaio [Presumed Portrait of Clarice Orsini, Wife of Lorenzo the Magnificent, NGI 1385] for £7395 from C Marshalls, London. The payment for this used both the Shaw and Lane fund. The remaining three decisions were deferred.
