Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 5th November 1965 in which the following was discussed: the board received letters from the Department of Education stating the need for an assistant senior attendant post to be made, along with the attendant staff being regarded as overtime grade and paid accordingly, the board approved of both measures. The board approved of the Gallery staying open to 9pm every Thursday. An assistant restorer and a cataloguer had been appointed, and the board now sought to fill the post of assistant to the Director. The Director had purchased a portrait of James Gandon which he had purhcased in Sotheby's and was approved by the board (NGI 1783). The Yeats Catalogue was approved and the board decided on an entry price to the exhibition. Four requests for loans were made, all of which were sanctioned by the board. The board accepted gifts in the form of a portrait of Jimmy O'Dea and a picture of sunset near Castle Townshend [NGI 1785-1976]. "The Pilgrim" by George Grattan, a portrait by George Russell, and a drawing by Jack B. Yeats were all approved for purchase [NGI 3779, 1787, 3780]. The Director reported on his visit to the USA. The board heard the credit of the Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund. The board declined a picture by Francis Darby and read a report on the progress of the Gallery extension.
