Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 7th February 1964 in which the following was discussed: a vote of sympathy was passed for the relatives of the late board member, Mr Richard McGonigal. Dr Noel Browne's statement in the Dail Eireann was discussed. Mr Gorry was consulted in regards to the tear in the picture of James MacNeill, and stated that the picture was in a terrible condition and required immediate attention. A report was read in connection with nominations for the European Card Index. Sir Alec Martin was reappointed to the board. A request was recieved to reproduce pictures in the collection for Arthur Guinness' magazine, "The Harp," which the board did not come to a decision on. A plaster cast of Madonna and Child by Andrew O'Connor, had been offered as a gift to the Gallery and the board instructed further inspection of this piece. Numerous offers for purchase had been received but were pending the appointment of a new Director. Portraits of Lord Edward Fitzgerald and Pamela Fitzgerald were requested for loan by Leinster House, however due to the vital nature of these pieces in the portrait collection, the board could only agree to lend them for a short period of time or possibly create copies. The Director of the Ulster Museum, Belfast requested the loan of six pictures for a Shakespeare Exhbition, four of which were granted. The annual report for 1963 was adopted. Particulars of both the Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund were discussed. The situation of attendant staff was also discussed. The board decided to appoint a clerk-typist. More information was given regarding the extension of the Gallery premises, including schedule and cost.
