Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 6th December 1963 in which the following was discussed: Whitworth Art Gallery requested the loan of a portrait of Robert Devereaux, which was granted. The City Art Gallery in Bristol requested the loan of a painting by William Mulready, which was also granted. The board declined a loan to Brigadier General T.R. Blackley. A statuette by Lawrence Gahagan was declined for purchase. The board also declined the purchase of a oil painting of the Battle of St Gothard by P. Wouwerman. An upper age limit was set for the applicants for the position of Director, as well as extending the deadine to the 1st March 1964. It was agreed to reprint copies of the Act of The National Gallery of Ireland. Discussion was held regarding the Shaw Fund, and the credit of the Lane Fund was also noted. A letter was received from the Department of Education regarding extra attendants. Two pictures were offered on loan to the Gallery but the board requested to see photographs of the pictures before making a decision. The Shakepeare Exhibition withdrew their request for the loan of the portrait of Sir Walter Raleigh. Father Dargan requested permission to use copies of NGI 93 "Madonna and Child" by Sassoferrato, as a Christmas card, which was granted. Miss Joan Tighe sought permission to reproduce copies of pictures in Irish newspapers, which was granted. A tear was noticed in NGI 3258 "Portrait of James MacNeill" by Louis Raemaekers.
