Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 4th February 1959 in which the following was discussed: the amount of grant-aid for purchase and repair of pictures was noted as £3000. Authority was given to spend £13.10 on a special display for the German Festival Week. Six pictures were considered for purchase but this was deferred until a special meeting the following week. Meeting item no 6 was an agreement to lend "The Marriage of Thetis and Peleus" by Poussin and "David and Goliath" by Orazio Gentileschi [NGI 980] to Musee de Bordeaux. It was agreed to lend the "Parody of Raphael's 'School of Athens'" by Joshua Reynolds [NGI 734] to an exhibition in Rome. "An Indian Lady", perhaps 'Jemdanee', Bibi of William Hickey by Thomas Hickey [NGI 1390] was accepted from The Friends of the Irish National Collection. Further discussion about pension arrangements for the staff and funds from the Shaw Estate. Approval was given for the loan of the Death Mask of Wolfe Tone to Maurice McGonigal. It was agreed to lend 19 pictures to the Belfast Museum.
