Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 4th December 1957 in which the following was discussed: it was agreed to loan unnamed pictures to Belfast. The estimate of £12,650 for the Gallery services were submitted for 1958/9. The proposal by Mr de Vere White for an exhibition of Irish painting during An Tostal 1958 was declined as the board felt there insufficient space. However, the board suggested requesting the Minister make nos. 88 and 89 Merrion Square available for such an exhibition in 1959. It was agreed to purchase from R A Riches a portrait of Judge Kendal Bushe by Martin Cregan [NGI 1375] for 75 guineas. The Director submitted a suggestion from the Director of the National Museum for the transfer of 163 pictures from the Museum to the Gallery.
