Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 3rd July 1957 in which the following was discussed: detailed discussion about the legalities of the G B Shaw bequest. The offer of two Cassone panels from Captain Prior-Wandesforde was accepted. Mr de Vere White [served on NGI board until 1994] was appointed to the Selection Committee of the Haverty Trust to replace the late Evie Hone. It was agreed to purchase from Arland Ussher a "Portrait of Arthur Ussher" by Cornelius Johnson for £100 [NGI 1383]. Also agreed not to purchase a portrait of Major George Johnstone by Richard Rothwell for £235. It was agreed to purchase a small anatomical piece by Hogan at £100 [NGI 8047]. The boards attention was brought to the present condition of certain pictures in a report by Denis Mahon - no action taken.
