Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 6th January 1957 in which the following was discussed: the Director reports investigating the whereabouts of a portrait of O'Sullivan Beare [NGI 2331], it was thought the painting had moved from the Irish College Salamanca to the Irish Embassy in Madrid. Mention of correspondence with Chief State Solicitors Office relating to the will of G B Shaw. It was decided to defer the addition of a revolving door to the Gallery due to 'economy in public expenditure'. Discussion of representation on the board of members of the RDS. The Friends of the Irish National Collection requested the right to distribute publicity pamphlets in the Gallery, this was granted. Mr White and Mr MacGonigal were appointed auditors of the Lane Fund. Three requests for loans were accepted, to Belfast, Bordeaux, and Manchester. A landscape by Evie Hone was offered by the The Friends of the Irish National Collection and accepted ["Snow at Marley" NGI 1371]. It agreed to immediately lend the picture to the Dublin Municipal Gallery of Modern Art.
