Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 6th June 1956 in which the following was discussed: it was agreed to purchase a portrait of Orpen by Charles Conder [NGI 1327] for 150 guineas. The gift of "Procession a Joscelyn" by May Guinness ["A Religious Procession in Brittany" NGI 1339] was accepted. Discussion of the terms and conditions of the Directors role. It was agreed to accept the terms subject to two conditions that are outlined. It was felt that the staff should be increased with the addition of 'Junior Expert and Trainee'. A gift of a picture by Manie Jellett was accepted from Mrs Dorothy Teacher 'supplementary to the Evie Hone Bequest'. A gift of two cartoons for windows by Evie Hone and a cast of George II by van Nost were not accepted from the Friends of the Irish National Collections. Proffessor Hacket and Mr de Vere White proposed amendments to byelaws 3,5,14, and 17. It was suggested that as the Gallery 'now had the services of a short-hand typist' copies of the minutes of meetings should be made available to the board.
