Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 6th February 1952 in which the following was discussed: the installation of parquet flooring in the large Italian Gallery was discussed, as well as the heating system for the Gallery, both of which were to be discussed with the Office of Public Works. A letter was received from the Department of Education detailing a proposal from the General Conference of UNESCO of a convention for the protection in case of war of objects of cultural value. The Director's report for 1951 was submitted and approved. Mr Keating and Mr O'Callaghan were appointed auditors for the Lane Fund for 1951. The purchase of a picture by Pieter Cooke van Aelst was declined. A request was received from Lady Hawson seeking the return of the portrait of Thomas Taffray by Reynolds, which would be dealt with by the Director once their legal position was made clear. The loan of the picture "St Jerome Translating the Gosepls" by Francis Nicholas was declined due to the risk of damage to the painting. The Director reported on the credit of the Lane Fund.
