Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 4th April 1951 in which the following was discussed: the board agreed to the continuation of closing the Gallery on a Saturday afternoon. The Director had received a copy of the will of George Bernard Shaw. The Institute of Contemportary Art, Boston had requested an extension of the loan of items from the Gallery, which the board granted. The Director submitted for inspection gifts from Chester Beatty, which were gratefully accepted. Three pictures were submitted for purchase by Mrs Dorothy Vere May, with "The Wild Beast Hunt" by Rubens and "A portrait group of the Vere Foster Family" by William Orpen being approved for purchase [NGI 1198 and 1199]. A portrait of Art O'Neill Harper by Conn O'Donnell was approved for purchase. The board received two requests for the loans of items from their collection. The Director commented on the credit of the Lane Fund.
