Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 7th June 1950 in which the following was discussed: the Provisional Office of Tourism, Mantua, requested the loan of pictures by Giuseppe Bazzani, however this was declined. The portrait of Lady Gregory by William Orpen had sold for over £150. The Hon. James A. Murnaghan and Mr. Henry Mangan had been reappointed to the board. Senator Edward Augustine McGuire was appointed to the board to replace the deceased Senator Joseph Brennan, and Mr Maurice MacGonigal was also appointed to the board. A landscape by J.A. O'Connor was bequeathed to the Gallery by the late Sir Robert and Lady Woods, and accepted by the board [NGI 1182]. Lord Longford was appointed judge of the Taylor Art Scholarship for 1951, with Senator McGuire as an alternate. Mr McGuire was appointed as the replacement of the late Senator Brennan to represent the Gallery on the committee of the Thomas Haverty Trust. The acting Director reported on the investments of the Lane Fund. Nine applications were received for the post of Director, with Mr Thomas McGreevy being elected and the relevant Governmental departments being informed. Mr McGreevy was to take office on 1st July 1950. The acting Director commented on the credit of the Lane Fund.
