Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 1st February 1950 in which the following was discussed: the board passed a vote of sympathy for the relatives of the late James Sleator, board member. More information was given regarding the draft the Department of State Bill. The purchase of "Pool of Bethesda" was declined due to insufficient funds. Mr Joseph Connolly would cease to be a member of the board as he would no longer be Chairman of the Commissioners of Public Works, and would be replaced by Mr Diarmuid O'Hegarty from now on. The Department of External Affairs requested the loan of a painting, which was granted. The Director submitted his annual report for 1949 which was approved. Mr O'Callaghan and Mr Keating were appointed to audit the Lane Fund for 1949. Dr George Furlong submitted his resignation as Director of The National Gallery of Ireland effective from 31st March 1950, due to personal reasons. The Director reported on the credit of the Lane Fund. Two paintings were declined for purchase.
