Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 1st June 1949 in which the following was discussed: Senator Joseph Brennan was reappointed to the board. Miss Evie Hone was appointed as judge of the Taylor Art Scholarship for 1950, with Mr James Sleator nominated as the alternative judge. The purchase of "Christ Disputing with the Doctors" was declined. The Municipal Museum, Bruges, submitted a request for the loan of two pictures, however one of these pictures was not in a condition to safely be lent. The purchase of "the Misers" by Quentin Matsys was declined. Two portraits by John Butler Yeats were given to the Gallery by the Friends of the Irish National Collections and accepted [NGI 1179-1180]. The Director commented on the credit of the Lane Fund.
