Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 2nd June 1954 in which the following was discussed: the gift from Sir Hugh Beaver of a pencil drawing by Jack B Yeats by Sean O'Sullivan [NGI 3280] was presented for inspection. Alec Martin was reappointed to the board for a period of five years. It was agreed to lend six pictures to the Royal Academy for their Winter Exhibition and the picture "The Denunciation" by Hogarth [NGI 618] to City Art Gallery, Manchester. Lord Longford appointed as judge for the Taylor Art Scholarship. The Portrait of Thomas Francis Meagher, 'Meagher of the Sword' (1823-1867) [NGI 1284], Young Irelander by GF Mulvany was accepted as a gift from the Friends of the National Collections Ireland. The Director intimated that he would purchase "The Descent From the Cross" by Giovanni Balducci [NGI 1282] from Monsignor Shine for two hundred guineas.
