Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 2nd December 1953 in which the following was discussed: it was reported that the Department of Education 'made no claim to intervene in the appointment of the Director'. It was agreed the role of Director should be considered 'whole-time' but this to be recognised only if a salary of £1500 was granted. Some discussion on the whole-time/part-time status of the role of Registrar. Mr O'Hegarty expressed the view that army personnel should not be employed for the role of night-guard. This was unanimously agreed. It was reported the 'Minister had been sympathetic on the question of building an extension'. The Director submitted for inspection two Raphael drawings which had been purchased for £100 from Mrs Orpen (through Mrs Burke). A Tissot was accepted from Chester Beatty and three pictures by Grace Henry from Mrs Meredith. It was agreed to accede to a request from the 'Italian Ambassador and the Mayor of Florence' to borrow "Madonna" by Uccello [NGI 603]. It was agreed to lend Jack B Yeats "Above the Fair" to an exhibition in Paris. It was agreed to purchase from Daniel Shine "Village Orphans" by G F Mulvany [NGI 1276] and "An Irish Kitchen" by J G Mulvany [NGI 1277 "A Kitchen Interior"] for £100. Further picture offers listed as declined or for further consideration.
