Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 1st April 1953 in which the following was discussed: £11,000 of £11,781 cost of servicing the Gallery was granted by the Minister for Finance. Discussion of the Gallery benefitting from the GB Shaw fund. Discussion on the casting of the bust of Roger Casement by August Weckbecker. The offer of gifts from the Contemporary Art Society of two pictures - Lady Lavery by John Lavery [NGI 7311] and Portrait of George W. Russell (AE), Economist, Painter and Poet by Nigel Newton {NGI 1252] were accepted. The Department of Finance agreed to fund the installation of the a lift. Three requests for loans were considered. The Director submitted for examination "The Virgin and Child", School of Luini [NGI 1249] that he had purchased from Monsignor Shine for 100 guineas.
