Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 4th June 1952 in which the following was discussed: a list of pictures were reported as left in the Irish Embassy in London. Four pictures requested for loan by the Royal Academy of Arts. Agreed to lend pictures to decorate St George's Hall in Dublin Castle. A picture by Fernand Sabatte [The Arras Belfry, 1916 NGI1238 ] bequeathed by T W M Fuge accepted. Grants from the Department of Education including £250 for public lectures and £1250 for post-card size reproductions. It was agreed that 'due to the onerous duties of the Director' he would not be called to give lectures. Correspondence about various offers and loans detailed including the erection of a stained glass window The Four Green Fields by Evie Hone discussed. It was agreed to lend Portrait of Jeronimus Tonneman and his Son Jeronimus (‘The Dilettanti’) [NGI 497] to an exhibition of Dutch portraits at the Rijkmuseum. A portrait, James MacNeill (1869-1938), Last Governor General of Ireland by Louis Raemaekers accepted from Mrs McNeill. The offer of some pictures for purchase including two Rubens and a van Dyke declined. The two pictures, Trees of Howth by Orpen [NGI 1237], An Allegory by John (Sean) Keating [NGI 1236] were gratefully accepted from The Friends of the Irish National Collection.
