Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 2nd October 1946 in which the following was discussed: the painting "St Francis receiving the Stigmata" was no longer available for purchase as the vendor had been refused an export license. The Hone Bequest was discussed due to the death of Mr Dermod O'Brien, who represented the interests of the Gallery in regards to the bequest. The board agreed that attempts should be made to purchase"Madonna and Child with Saints" by Luca Signorelli, due to be on sale at Christie's in October. Two portraits were gifted by Captain Derek Cooper and accepted. The board declined the purchase of a watercolour by Michael Angelo Hayes as they believed the price to be excessive. The Director reported on the credit of the Lane Fund.
