Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 4th December 1935 in which the following was discussed: the Department of Education sanction payment to Registrar for his role as temporary Director. Several purchase offers declined. The repair of three pictures selected from 'amongst those in the basement' reported - St Philip Benozzi, "Worship of the Golden Calf" [by Pieter Pourbus, NGI 189] and "Portrait of a Sculptor" [NGI 144]. The Director mentioned "The Betrayal of Christ" by Gerard Honthorst [now attributed to Matthias Stom, NGI 425] as another candidate for repair. The Director mentioned three pictures which were for sale by Frank T Sabin - "The Adoration of the Magi" [NGI 1067],"Madonna", the Flemish School, and 'a picture of the School of van Orley'. The Director was instructed to purchase the three at £1900.
