Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 5th July 1939 in which the following was discussed: the Director did not arrange for the loan of "The Apotheosis of Jean Jacques Rousseau" for reasons which he outlined. Byelaws 2 and 10 were amended.The annual closing of the Gallery for cleaning and rehanging was to take place in October. The board selected two more pictures from Miss H.M. Reid's bequest to add to the Gallery. The purchase of a picture ascribed to Murrillo was declined, along with the purchase of two Dublin views by James Malton. The purchase of five watercolours by J.H. Campbell was approved [NGI 2973, NGI 2974, NGI 6342-6344]. A collection of medallions from Mr Theodore Spicer Simon was sanctioned for purchase. A gift of 7 woodcuts by Joseph Raphael was accepted. The Director reported on the credit of the Lane Fund.
