Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 6th June 1934 in which the following was discussed: after a 'full discussion' it was agreed to request again that the Minister for Education receive a deputation from the board. The Director submitted a gift, "Merchants Arch" by Orpen [NGI 2954] which was accepted. The Director gifted a portrait of Stephen MacKenna by J M Home. The Director submitted for inspection 'an Early Sienese Triptych' by Vigoroso for the price of £1300, agreed to be discussed at a later date. The offer of a gift of a portrait group - Thomas Sexton (1848-1896), William O'Brien (1852-1928), Dr Charles Keane Deane Tanner (1849-1901), Timothy Michael Healy (1855-1931) and Justin McCarthy, (1830-1912), by Charles Paul Renouard [NGI 2955] by Theobald Mathew gratefully accepted. Rev. Feargal Mcgrath of Clongowes Wood College requested the loan of Old Masters Paintings. A Mr Atkinson drew the attention of the board of a line in the Directors report of 1933 stating that students were exhibiting a 'depressing apathy' by not visiting the Gallery as they had in previous years. Mr Atkinson 'took exception' to this statement.
