Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 1st February 1939 in which the following was discussed: a sympathy note was sent to the relatives of longstanding board member, Dr W.B. Yeats who had passed. The Director reported that the money needed for the lighting had been granted. Tentative arrangements had been made for the proposed removal of items from The National Gallery for safe-keeping in times of emergency with the Department of Education, which the board then replied to. The Director read correspondence with the Department of Education in which they appoint J.B. Yeats as a member of the board, and the Royal Dublin Society appointed the Hon. W.E. Wylie and Professor Henry H. Dixon to the board. The Director's report for 1938 was submitted and approved. Mr Dermod O'Brien and Lord Longford were appointed auditors of the Lane Fund. The question of loans to state apartments was considered, in particular to the President's residence. The board approved the picture "Moses Strikes Water from a Rock" [NGI 1010]. The purchase of a portrait of Dr Douglas Hyde was approved [NGI 1011]. A portrait of Sir W.M. Petty was declined for purchase. The Director reported on the credit of the Lane Fund. A purchase offer of a landscape painting was declined.
