Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 3rd April 1929 in which the following was discussed: the audited account of the Lane Fund was submitted and accepted. The board reviewed the will of the late Mrs Hone, in which they received two bequests. Two pictures were deposited in the Gallery that were not part of the collection. A gift of twenty two additional drawings of the Parnell Comission by Sydney P. Hall were accepted. The board redirected an offer of a painting by the late Rene Boisens to the Municipal Art Gallery, as it was an example of modern art. A flower painting by Daniel Seghers, a portrait of George Mulvany and four drawings by James Barry were declined for purchase. The Director reported on a lack of inventory of autographs held in the Gallery's collection, except partial ones in certain printed catalogues. He found 114 autographs that were not recorded anywhere in the archives of the board, including an autograph of Napoleon Bonaparte. He submitted a list of all these documents and they were to be transferred to the National Library. It was agreed to grant a loan request from the Belfast Municipal Museum and Art Gallery, of an oil painting by Claude Monet and ten watercolours of the British School for a period not exceeding six months. The annual report of the Staked Plains Trust was received. Permission was given to the Irish Times to publish photographs of the Gallery's collection under certain conditions. The Director reported on the balance of the Lane Fund.
