Minutes of a board meeting held on 5th December 1928 in which the following was discussed: the purchase of a mezzotint of Lady Sarah Napier was declined. The purchase of a portrait of Sir Charles (Carnaby) Haggerston was approved [NGI 912]. The purchase of a portrait of Sir John Dwyer Gray was accepted [NGI 913]. The purchase of a portrait of a lady by Jan Attama was declined, along with two paintings, one by Daniel Seghers and the other by Bonifazio Veronese. "A Peasant Wedding" by Pieter Brueghel was approved for purhcase [NGI 911]. A gift of a bust of James Stephens was accepted [NGI 8002]. The loan of autographs to the National Library was confirmed. The Director informed the board that various notes and articles have appeared on items in the collection, especially in recent numbers of "Apollo" and "Old Master Drawings." The gift of a portrait of Dr John Todhunter was accepted [NGI 915]. The estimate for the year 1929-1930 was submitted and approved. The Director reported on the Haverty bequest. The board received a request from the Provost of Trinity College Dublin seeking the loan of pictures of Edmund Burke and Oliver Goldsmith for the College's Bicentenary Celebrations, which the board granted. The request for loan of "Shepherds at Night" by Rembrandt ["Landscape with the Rest on the Flight into Egypt" NGI 215] and "The Village School" by Jan Steen {NGI 226] from the committee of the forthcoming Dutch exhibition was granted. The purchase of a portrait of Lady Phillips and two children was declined. A picture of the Pentecost, School of Cologne was re-submitted to the board and approved for purchase. The Director reported on the credit of the Lane Fund.
