Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 6th July 1927 in which the following was discussed: the loan of a picture by Nathaniel Hone was declined. The gift of a portrait of Charles McEvoy was accepted [NGI 2769]. The offer of the loan of a miniature portrait of Admiral William Brown was declined. A letter was received indicating that a portrait of W.B.Yeats by Augustus John may be offered to the Gallery, and it was agreed that it should be accepted if and when this happened. The bequest of four pictures under the will of Clement K. Shorter was declined. It was agreed that the Gallery would close in October for cleaning and rehanging. Miss Sarah Purser was appointed judge of the Taylor Art Competition. It was agreed that the Director should purchase a portrait of John Redmond [NGI 889]. The Director was also authorised to purchase a painting by Pieter Lastman of "Joseph Selling Corn in Egypt" [NGI 890]. The Director was instructed to proceed with organising an exhibition in the Gallery of the works of Gainsborough. The Director suggested that the Star of the Order of St Patrick be loaned to The National Museum.
