Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 1st December 1926 in which the following was discussed: further replies were received in response to the letter sent by the board to various institutional and educational bodies about the Lane pictures. An application for the loan of a picture of an exhibition of Flemish and Belgian Art was received, but regrettably had to be refused due to the opinion of the Attorney General, as was the same regarding the loan of pictures for an exhibition of Irish portraits by Ulster painters. Pictures by Philip de Koninck and Jan van Scorel were refused. Pictures from the Bachstitz Gallery were offered for purchase, but also refused. The estimates for 1927-1928 were considered and approved. The board gratefully accepted gifts of an aquatint of the post office from the Director, and a portrait of Daniel O'Connell by Daniel Maclise [NGI 11705 and NGI 10601]. Two pictures by George Wallis were offered but declined. The purchase of a portrat of Wadell Cunningham was declined. A picture "Jupiter and Juno on Mount Ida" by James Barry was not accepted for purchase by the board. It was suggested that the Director should purchase a picture by Jan Victoor, as well as a portrait of Sir Henry Sidney [NGI 879-880].
