Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 2nd October 1929 in which the following was discussed: the death announced of board member Lord Cloncurry [served on the NGI board 1893 to 1929]. Denis Coffey was appointed to the board [served until his death in 1945]. The loan of the picture "Lady Congreve and Children" by Philip Reinagle [NGI 676] to the exhibition Conversation Pieces was denied. Agreement reached to lend five pictures to the Exhibition of Italian Art at the Royal Academy. A bequest, the "Bead Stringers of Venice" by John Singer Sargent [NGI 921] was accepted. A series of sketches by Sydney P Hall was accepted from H R Hall [NGI 6097 +]. Several pictures offered for purchase and declined. "A Portrait of a Man" by Jean-Baptiste Perroneau [NGI 920] was purchased from Thomas Agnew and son for £2000. The balance of the Lane Fund noted as being £1637.7.10.
