Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 21st July 1915 in which the following was discussed: a memorandum on the subject of the late Hugh Lane's estate was read highlighting various points of friction. A long communication from George Stevenson was read recording his reasons for objecting to to the appointment of the new Clerk at the last meeting, he argues that a woman was never really going to get the job despite the clearly superior qualifications. Of 120 applicants, 60 were women and the five finalists were women yet a man was chosen. The board acknowledged the letter and appointed James Stephens for one year at salary of £150. The board was informed that Sir Thomas Deane had resigned his position as a representative of the RHA on the board of the Gallery.
