Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 7th October 1925 in which the following was discussed: a letter was recieved from the British Consulate General, New York, regarding the estate of John Quinn. A letter was also recieved from the curator of the Public Art Gallery and Museum in Belfast, thanking the board for their loan of the Hone pictures. The Lord Mayor of Norwich applied to the board for the loan of a picture by Chardin, which was approved. An engraving of Sally Tollendal was presented to the board by Mrs A. Francis Stewart, and was accepted. The board agreed to examine an offer of pictures by the late Francis Walker, presented by Mrs J.D. Fitzgerald. The loan of the picture "Portrait of a Gentleman" by Bernardo Strozzi ["Portrait of Giovanni Battista Brignole" NGI 781] to the Magnasco Society was approved. The report of the publication sub-comittee was submitted and approved. A drawing "Ships in Venice" by John Sargent was offered by his sisters in his memory, and was accepted [NGI 2752]. A bronze bust of Julien Alden Weir was offered to the Gallery and accepted [NGI 8161]. The offer of 13 prints from the collection of Sir John O'Donnell was declined, along with an offer of a copy in marble of "The Dying Gladiator." "Portrait of a Gentleman" by Lorenzo Lotto, later atributed to Giovanni Antonio Pordenone, was approved for purchase [NGI 866]. The offer to purchase three portrait sketched by J.B. Yeats was declined. A photograph was offered for purchase by Captain Langton Douglas, however the Director was instructed to inform him that there were no funds available for this purchase. The offer of two plaster busts was also declined. A portrait of Nathaniel Hone by Walter Osborne was offered for purchase and was approved to be purchased for no more than £100.
