Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 18th May 1915 in which the following was discussed: the board mark the tragic death of the Director Sir Hugh Lane who lost his life on the RMS Lusitania after its destruction by the Germans. The board also express their 'indignation and horror at the foul, wholesale murder committed by the Germans', they also 'trust that this outrage will bring home to the whole world how deeply the vital interests of every civilized nation of involved in the present struggle'. It was agreed to appoint Mr Walter Strickland as Director until the term of his office expires. It was agreed Mr Strickland would train a Clerk in his previous duties as registrar. Letter from the Treasury was read agreeing to retain Mr Strickland. The Under Secretary thanks the board for the offer of rooms in the Gallery for the Lord Lieutenant and informs them that he will avail of the offer. The letter of welcome by the board for the new Lord Lieutenant is read and the his reply.
