Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 6th February 1924 in which the following was discussed: Senator Dr W.B. Yeats and Sir John Lavery were appointed to the board. The board received notice from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Defence that there was no longer any military reason for the Gallery to remain closed, thus the Director was informed to bring the Gallery staff back to full strength and arrance with the Minister for a full or partial reopening. The board expressed their regret over the death of previous board member, the Rt. Hon. L.A. Waldron [served on NGI board 1907 to 1924]. The Director submitted his report for the year 1923-1924, along with the estimates for 1924-1925 which were both approved. The Director and Mr Dermod O'Brien were tasked with disposing of any useless frames in the cellar. Mr Hogg and Mr Bodkin were appointed as auditors for the Lane fund for the completed year, and more information is discussed relating to the Lane fund. The Director listed items from the Martyn bequest which he believed were worth retaining. The Director also reported on the Bridgford bequest and was instructed to have the pictures sent to the Gallery for inspection. A bust of Michael Collins was approved for purchase [NGI 8001]. The Director was instructed to write to Captain Robert Langdon Douglas to enquire if a Tintoretto painting he had agreed to sell to the Gallery was still available.
