Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 8th August 1895 in which the following was discussed: Mr Murphy from no.88 Merrion Square signalled his intention to put grills on the windows of his house adjacent to the Gallery. The board objected. The Director submitted a small 'sea piece' by George Chambers [NGI 403] for purchase for £12. "Lady with Paper" ["A Lady in a Window Holding a Bunch of Grapes" NGI 435] by Ochtervelt purchased through Mr Gooden for £31.10.0. The Director announced the dismissal of one of the Porters, Denis Cleary, for being 'under the influence of drink'. The Director presented his report for 1894. 72,290 visitors noted. Four pages listing pictures purchased, donations received, loans made, and pictures cleaned and glazed. Discussion of re-arrangement of pictures in the Gallery and the portrait Gallery that had taken place during the year. Announcement of a complete new alphabetical catalogue of portraits. Discussion of increase of wages for Gallery staff. Detailed descriptions (appendix) of 22 pictures and drawings acquired by the Gallery in the previous year.
