Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 16th June 1905 in which the following was discussed: the Director informed the board that Lady Milltown had been served with a notice from the Government asking that she hand over the Milltown Collection two weeks from the date of the meeting. The board received a letter from the Chief Crown Solicitor stating that legal proceedings against Messers Lewis and Simmons for the recovery of the miniature of Richard Burke, stolen from the Gallery in 1880 had begun. A list of paintings were submitted to the board and approved for purchase. The board also sanctioned the purchase of a picture of the late Rt. Hon. W.E.H. Lecky by John Lavery [NGI 574]. A list of gifts presented to the Gallery were mostly accepted, with a copy of Titian's "Venus" being declined. The Director stated to the board that the committee for an exhibition in Antwerp of Jacob Jordaens' work sought the loan of the large picture in the Gallery by Jordaens [NGI 46], which the board agreed to under certain conditions.
