Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 19th May 1905 in which the following was discussed: the Director reported that he had offered a payment of £20 for the miniature of Richard Burke however, this offer was denied by the owner and the matter is now with the Chief Crown Solicitor. The Director then read extensive correspondence in relation to the Milltown Gift, after which the board found no reason as to why the Countess of Milltown should not obery her legal obligation, and that the Government should take the necessary steps to ensure the delivery of the collection at the earliest possible date. The Director presented to the board the following purchases; "Portrait of a Lady" by H.D. Hamilton, which was denied,"Portrait of John Gore, Chief Justice of the King's Bench, afterwards created Lord Annaly" by P. Hussey, which was approved for purchase under certain conditions, and "Portrait of a man, unknown," a minature by J. Cooke, which was approved. The Director then exhibitied to the board bequests to the Gallery from the will of the late Lady Ferguson, namely; "Portrait of Sir Samuel Ferguson" a chalk drawing by Sir Frederic Burton [NGI 2582], and a "Portrait of a Young Lady" attributed to Arnoldus van Ravesteyn [(NGI 571]. The Gallery also received a gift of an engraving of a view of Trinity College Library [NGI 10008], which it accepted.
