Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 17th March 1905 in which the following was discussed: the Director read a letter in regards to the miniature of Richard Burke that was discussed at the previous meeting, in which the opinon of the Attorney General is that it would be better and easier for the Gallery to retrieve the miniature by purchase, which the board agreed to with a maximum purhcase limit set at £20. The Director informed the board that the late Mr William Arnold Sandby had bequeathed three watercolour paintings by Paul Sandby to The National Gallery, which the board unanimously accepted. The paintings were "Travellers Crossing a River," "Beech Trees by a Country Road," and "The Hundred Steps and Winchester Tower, Windsor Castle, Berkshire." (NGI 2577-2579). The Gallery also received a gift of an etching by Mr Alphonsus Legros which they gratefully accepted. The Director then read his annual report for the year 1904, which was adopted by the board. The Director was appointed one of the three Judges in the annual Taylor Art Competition for 1905-6.
