Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 3rd February 1905 in which the following was discussed: the Director read further correspondence relating to the Lady Milltown affair. The board also received a letter from Mr Hugh P. Lane relating to the Committee of the proposed Modern Art Gallery, in regards to the exhibition mentioned at the previous meeting. The Director read before the board a draft for the removal of the Milltown Collection from Russborough House, which the board unanimously approved of. A bronze bust of the late Rt. Hon. W.E.H. Lecky by Sir Edgar Boehm was gifted to the Gallery and accepted by the board [NGI 8148]. The Director purchased a coloured lithograph "Frame containing Six Daguerreotypes of Daniel O'Connell and the Repeal Martyrs" by Alexander Doussin Dubreuil [NGI 2011.14] from the owner, Miss Ray. The Director informed the board that a minature of Richard Burke which was stolen from the Gallery walls in 1880 had come up for sale at an auction at Bennett's auction sale, and the board resolved to instruct the Chief Crown Solicitor to take whatever steps necessary to secure its retrieval.
