Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 24th November 1904 in which the following was discussed: the payment for the portrait of "Portrait of James Quin" by Thomas Gainsborough [NGI 565] was confirmed. The purchase of a portrait sketch of The 2nd Duke of Leinster by Martin Archer Shee [NGI 569] was approved. A portrait of Dean Swift was also approved for purchase, along with a drawing of College Green by S. Brocas and drawings by H. Brocas. A series of etchings by A. Legros [NGI 11473 to 11478] were accepted as a gift from Miss Harrison. The estimate for 1905-1906 was submitted by the Director and came to £3096. The Director read more correspondence relating to Lady Milltown's gift, including legal documents. The board agreed to leave the legal proceedings in the hands of His Excellency's advisors. The Lord Lieutenant appointed Lieutenant Colonel W. Hutcheson Poe to the board of Guardians and Governors of The National Gallery [from 1904 to 1934], taking the place of the recently deceased Viscount Powerscourt The Royal Hibernian Academy extended the term of Nathaniel Hone as a Governor and Guardian of the Gallery for a further 5 years.
