Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 31st March 1904 in which the following was discussed: the Director was once again appointed Judge on behalf of the board of The National Gallery for the Taylor Art competition for 1905. The National Art Collections fund offered the Gallery a picture by Antoine Watteau if the Gallery could contribute £100 to its purchase. The board unanimously approved. Mr Hugh Lane offered a picture by John Hoppner, a sketch portrait of the painter as a fisherman, to the Gallery, which was accepted by the board. The Director informed the board that Mr John Herbert ? had offered to lend the Gallery a picture by Sir John Millais, "Hearts are Trumps" for at least six months, which the board also accepted.
