Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 21st August 1890 in which the following was discussed: the Director recounts an interesting tale about the purchase of a Rembrandt ["Portrait of a Young Man" by Govaert Flinck [NGI 319]] in Brussels for £800, includes discussion on cut away signature and reframing of the picture. Also discussed interest in the picture from a Viennese art dealer who offered a higher price (£880). The purchase of three pictures from the Duke of Somerset's Sale including "Portrait of Anne Hamilton, Countess of Donegal" by Francis Cotes [NGI 373]] for £39.18.0. Report of the purchase of some miniatures. A portrait of Reverend MacHale offered and accepted. Death of board member Richard Wallace [served on NGI board 1879 to 1890] announced.
