Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 17th February 1887 in which the following was discussed: Mr Agnew from Manchester Jubilee Exhibition requests the loan of three named pictures. The board agreed, the pictures to be insured for £900. A list of several pictures purchased at Christie Manson's presented. 'A curious contemporary portrait in indian ink of the Earl of Tyrconnell' presented by the Director [ "Richard Talbot, Earl and Duke of Tyrconnell (1630-1691), Lord Lieutenant of Ireland" by John Bulfinch [NGI 2029]]. The Director stated that he proposed to introduce the display of signatures of important persons in the portrait gallery, the system lately adopted in London. He revealed he had recently been offered 21 autographs. Condolences were drafted in reaction to death of the Duke of Leinster. The Director presented his report for the year 1886. 75,337 visitors recorded (23,826 on Sundays). List of 14 pictures purchased with the £1000 purchase grant. Total £821.15. List of two pictures lent to the Royal Academy. List of some pictures glazed.
