Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 3rd April 1883 in which the following was discussed: discussion on appointments of Porters for the Gallery. A portrait of Daniel O'Connell by George Mulvany [NGI 207] was approved for purchase for £40. A portrait of John Banim [NGI 208], author of the O'Hara Tales purchased for £20, also by Mulvany. A portrait of William Carleton [NGI 224], author of Traits of the Irish Peasantry by John Joseph Slattery offered for £30 and accepted. A portrait of Phipps by Crowley [NGI 202] purchased for £10. Discussion of the proposed purchase of a portrait of Lord Northington by Joshua Reynolds from Lord Hartford, discount from £200 to £175 to be sought. A portrait of George Petrie by Bernard Mulrenin [NGI 408] accepted from William Littledale. The Director then presented his report for the year 1882. 98,147 visitors recorded. A list of five pictures purchased at the Hamilton Sale presented. A list of three pictures purchased at the Du Bus Sale at Brussels. About ten pictures listed under 'these were also purchased.
