Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 23rd November 1899 in which the following was discussed: the purchase of a portrait in pastel on copper by Edward Luttrell was approved of. A portrait of the late W.J. Fitzpatrick by S. Catterson Smith was donated to the Gallery and unanimously accepted [NGI 492]. The board also accepted an engraved portrait of Lord Frederick Cavendish [NGI 10188]. The purchase of a death mask of John Mitchell was agreed to by the board. The estimate for the year 1900-1901 came to £2479. The board express their condolences for the death of the architect, Sir Thomas Deane, who had recently been employed on plans to extend The National Gallery.
