Minutes of a board meeting held on 23rd February 1899 in which the following was discussed: the will of the late Mrs Alice Rowley, in which she bequeaths a painting to The National Gallery, however, the board also received a letter from Mr William Rowley, asking the Gallery to waive their right to the painting so that it could remain in the Rowley family, due to circumstances he disclosed in the letter. The board decided to accept the painting [NGI 482]. The Gallery received a gift of a pencil portrait of Thomas H. Burke [NGI 2350]. Mr Nathaniel Hone was re-elected to the board by the council of the Royal Hibernian Academy. The Treasury sanctioned the sale of the new Gallery catalogue at sixpence each.
