Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 24th November 1898 in which the following was discussed: the issue of copies being made from pictures in the Gallery and how to mark them to make it known they were copies. The board agreed to stamp the back of the canvas with information that it was a copy. The board also agree to loan three pictures by Rembrandt to Sir Edward Poynter for an upcoming exhibit, provided that they are fully insured. Letter from the Secretary of the Board of Works in regards to No. 88 Merrion Square and the proposed extension of the Gallery. The board agree to not build upon the ground between the Gallery buildings and Merrion Square for the term of 29 years, during which a Mr Murphy has rights in No. 88 Merrion Square, as long as he has no objections to the Gallery erecting buildings along his garden wall. The Director submitted the estimate for the year 1899-1890 which came to £2506.12.0. The purchase of two aquatints and some two hundred Irish portaits were sanctioned by the board. The Director also appealed to the board that the Registrar's salary should increase, and the board resolved that the annual salary should increase to £250, if approved by the Treasury.
