Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 13th October 1898 in which the following was discussed: a list of artwork that was approved for purchase. A portrait of the late Charles Stewart Parnell was offered as a gift to the Gallery, which the board accepted [NGI 481]. A portrait of Dr Allman by Sir Frederick Burton was deposited in the Gallery by Allman himself [NGI 2351]. The Trustees of The National Portrait Gallery in London had transferred a portrait of Richard West ["Portrait of James Hewitt, First Viscount Lifford, Lord Chancellor of Ireland", [NGI 124]] to the Gallery. The Director read a letter from the Secretary to the Board of Works in regards to the extension of the Gallery, and the board approved of these plans for the proposed additions and modifications to the Gallery. The new catalogue of the Gallery had been printed and the Director was seeking approval from the Treasury to sell them for sixpence each. The Director read a memorandum relating to the new catalogues. The catalogue had almost doubled in length, being 188 pages in 1890, to 361 in 1898.
