Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 29th April 1897 in which the following was discussed: a purchase of 5 sheets of drawings by the late Lord Leighton was approved [NGI 2175, NGI 3213-3216], however the purchase of a terracotta bust was declined. A picture of Venus and Cupid was gifted to the Gallery by Mr John Orpin [NGI 467]. The board was also presented with the Director's report for the year 1896, which they accepted and added that they should once again apply pressure to the Government to seek an extension of the Gallery's buildings.
